Smash for a Cure BBQIn September 2008, Rocky Mountain Computer Repair owner, Chris McGoey-Smith was diagnosed with Type 1 - Juvenile Diabetes. With this diagnoses, Chris realized he'd found another place to direct his passion for computers and began a fundraising campaign to support the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Smash for a Cure® 2010 featured a family BBQ, complete with a Smashing Corral, where old, donated computers and accessories (laptops, desktops, keyboards, mice, cellphones etc.) were smashed for a pay per hit donation and then recycled. This event not only raised funds for the Canadian Diabetes Association, but it also raised awareness about the importance of electronics recycling.
Smash for a Cure® 2011 was held at Southcentre Mall and the event was bigger and better than ever! In addition to everything from 2010 it featured live bands, and an awesome fire theatrics show.
Smash for a Cure® is an annual Calgary Diabetes Event, and is happening again in the Spring of 2013.
